Object First is ideal for organizations like us that have small IT teams and high requirements for data security, ransomware protection, and easy scalability.
Introduction
Schomburg GmbH & Co. KG is a leading German manufacturer of construction chemical products, supplying high-performance sealants, adhesives, and surface protection solutions for construction and infrastructure projects. Headquartered in Detmold, Germany, the company serves professional contractors and architects across Europe and beyond. As ransomware threats intensified and internal IT standards evolved, Schomburg partnered with Object First to transform its backup environment.
Challenges
Schomburg's legacy backup architecture—built around an HPE enclosure managed via an intermediary Windows Server—introduced significant operational complexity.
Key issues included:
- High administrative overhead from managing OS updates, drivers, firmware, and backup software across the server layer
- Incompatibility risks following updates, which threatened instability across the entire backup chain
- Performance bottlenecks during large volume restores and parallel backup operations
- A complete absence of immutability, leaving backup data exposed to potential ransomware threats
Solution
Working with a trusted IT partner, PCO, Schomburg evaluated a range of backup storage options. Object First stood out for its plug-and-play simplicity, Absolute Immutability with Zero Access to destructive actions, and purpose-built Veeam integration. PCO oversaw a rapid, disruption-free deployment, getting Object First appliances operational in minimal time.
Results
Implementing Object First allowed Schomburg to resolve all key challenges:
- Administrative overhead was reduced to near zero, as the elimination of the Windows Server layer removed a complex intermediate tier to maintain and troubleshoot.
- Maintenance effort dropped dramatically, with shorter intervals and a far lower ongoing management burden.
- Backup and restore performance improved significantly, particularly for large data volumes.
- Absolute Immutability now ensures backup data is fully protected from tampering or deletion—providing the resilience needed to recover from ransomware.
