Schomburg GmbH & Co. KG is a leading German manufacturer of construction chemical products, supplying high-performance sealants, adhesives, and surface protection solutions for construction and infrastructure projects. As ransomware threats intensified and internal IT standards evolved, Schomburg partnered with Object First to transform its backup environment. 

Challenges  

Schomburg's legacy backup architecture—built around an HPE enclosure managed via an intermediary Windows Server—introduced significant operational complexity.  

Key issues included:  

• High administrative overhead from managing OS updates, drivers, firmware, and backup software across the server layer 
• Incompatibility risks following updates, which threatened instability across the entire backup chain 
• Performance bottlenecks during large volume restores and parallel backup operations 
• A complete absence of immutability, leaving backup data exposed to potential ransomware threats
