ENIDH deploys ransomware-proof backups in just 15 minutes

Introduction 

Escola Superior Náutica Infante D. Henrique (ENIDH) is a public higher education institution in Lisbon, Portugal, specialising in maritime studies, transport, and logistics. With 110 staff and 750 students, ENIDH needed a backup storage solution that could deliver security, simplicity, and dependability—without adding to its small IT team’s burden. Challenges 

ENIDH's previous backup storage relied on internally built repositories using refurbished hardware and hardened Linux systems. This approach introduced serious operational challenges: 

• Repeated repository failures: Two critical incidents over three years caused complete repository unavailability, requiring full rebuilds on both occasions 

• High operational complexity: Managing hardened Linux repositories required specialised skills not always available within the small IT team, creating ongoing reliance on external expertise

Solution
