The Best Storage for Veeam—Now available as CapEx or Consumption
Modern backup needs are changing, and so should the way you consume storage. From growing ransomware threats to unpredictable data growth, IT teams require solutions that are not just secure but also flexible.
While traditional CapEx models still work well for many, the prospect of upfront costs, sizing complexity, and uncertain scaling can be off-putting when agility and speed are critical.
That’s why we’ve introduced a new way to acquire Ootbi (Out-of-the-Box Immutability). Meet our new Consumption Model, which removes financial friction, simplifies planning, and scales with your needs without compromising security.
It’s currently available in the USA, though other countries will follow later.
Enhanced Security, Flexible Consumption
Ootbi by Object First still delivers what matters most: secure, simple, and powerful on-premises backup storage purpose-built for Veeam—with zero security expertise required.
The only difference? You now have the freedom to choose how you consume it:
CapEx: A traditional upfront purchase where you own the Ootbi appliance deployed on-premises.
Consumption: A modern, pay-per-use model where Object First retains appliance ownership and handles the backend complexity while you enjoy full backup protection.
Under both the CapEx and Consumption models, you get software, OS, and firmware updates, technical support, and on-site service.
With CapEx, those benefits are included for a fixed term (typically up to five years); the Consumption Model provides them continuously for the length of your active subscription.
Why Consumption-Based Subscription?
For some teams, the CapEx model will continue to work just fine. For others, the flexibility and speed of a consumption model can remove roadblocks and help them move forward faster.
If you’re not sure which path is right for you, here are a few reasons why the consumption model might be a better fit.
Benefits of the Consumption Model
Only pay for what you use*, and scale as you grow: Start with as little as 17 TB and scale up to 7+ PB—no upfront cost, just simple monthly billing, and a flexible 1-year subscription. The more you use, the lower your per-terabyte cost.*
Refreshes, support, and updates included: Hardware, service, firmware, and software updates are fully covered. You don't pay for appliances—you pay for protection. When your appliance reaches the end of life, Object First replaces it—seamlessly.
Predictable billing, simplified planning: Avoid costly over- or under-sizing with help from the Object First Storage Calculator, expert guidance, and a trusted partner network—so you can stay focused on what matters most.
Accelerate your backup project timelines: Eliminate financial hurdles and get started faster to unlock ransomware resilience.
*Storage usage is assumed to grow over time; reducing consumption is possible at agreement renewal.
How to Adopt a Consumption Model
Getting started with the Ootbi Consumption Model is really simple. Here’s how it works in three easy steps:
Plan with the Experts
Start with a free consultation. Object First and our network of trusted resellers and service providers will help you assess your environment and forecast your backup storage needs—so you get the right size from day one, with room to grow.
Deploy Ootbi On-Premises
Once your order is placed through your reseller or service partner, Object First ships your appliance directly to you. Setup is straightforward and takes less than 15 minutes to rack, stack, and power the Ootbi.
Pay Monthly for What You Need
You’ll be billed monthly for the agreed backup capacity. If you use more in a given month, you’ll be charged a per-TB supplemental in the next billing cycle. Capacity can be adjusted anytime as your needs evolve. Simple and predictable!
