Back in April, we launched our Consumption-based subscription model in the US—giving customers a new, flexible way to deploy the industry’s most secure, simple and powerful backup storage for Veeam.

We’re now excited to announce that Object First’s Ootbi (Out-of-the-Box Immutability) appliance is also available on a Consumption basis across the EU and UK, with other EMEA countries following soon.

This means you can choose the purchasing model that fits your business best—CapEx for a traditional one-time investment, or Consumption for predictable monthly billing based on what you use—without compromising security, simplicity, or performance.

Why Consumption Models Matter in EMEA

Earlier today, during our online launch event, I had a fireside chat with IDC Senior Research Manager Luis Fernandes. He shared new findings from IDC’s Digital Infrastructure Survey of 1,500 EMEA businesses—grouped as Digital Leaders, Mainstream, and Followers based on their approach to IT infrastructure.

The results show exactly why this launch is so timely: 96% of Digital Leaders already use flexible consumption models in their datacenters, from 50-employee SMBs to large enterprises.

Among the top benefits cited by these existing adopters are:

  • Better alignment between IT resources and actual usage
  • Freeing teams for higher-value work
  • Improving integration and utilisation across the infrastructure.

For those still evaluating consumption models, priorities include robust solution design, smooth implementation, and predictable pricing without nasty surprises.

Security, Compliance, and Resilience: Top Priorities

IDC’s research also shows that, alongside AI adoption, the top datacenter priorities for EMEA digital leaders are improving security and compliance, and enhancing business resilience.

As Luis pointed out, in today’s threat landscape, your backup storage isn’t just an insurance policy—it’s the last line of defence and a competitive advantage when recovery speed and confidence matter most.

The Best Storage for Veeam, Your Way

By making our ransomware-proof Ootbi appliance available through a Consumption acquisition model, Object First is absolutely aligning with these IDC findings. But while there are already backup storage solutions on the market based on Consumption models, we choose (as usual!) to do things a little differently.

Instead of complex pricing including compute and storage consumption, we have a really simple model based purely on the storage consumed. And we’re offering a starting capacity of just 17 TB—scaling to more than 7 PB as necessary.

Whether you choose CapEx or our new Consumption model, Ootbi is:

  • Secure: Out-of-the-Box Immutability with Zero access to destructive actions.
  • Simple: 15 minutes to deploy and scale, no expertise required.
  • Powerful: Lightning fast up to 8 GB/s, with supercharged Instant Recovery.

For EMEA customers, the Consumption model means you can start protecting your data with no large upfront cost, predictable monthly billing, and the same award-winning appliance trusted by Veeam users worldwide.

Great News for VARs and MSPs too

The new Consumption model also offers a route for Partners to provide ransomware-proof storage to their customers. MSPs can upgrade their own datacenter infrastructure with no up-front cost to strengthen their Backup-as-a-Service (BaaS) and Disaster-Recovery-as-a-Service (DRaaS) offerings. Partners can also deploy Ootbi appliances on-prem at customer sites – as part of a fully-managed service or on a self-managed basis.
