Brian Beeler, owner of StorageReview, recently published an in-depth evaluation* of Object First’s newly expanded hardware lineup, incorporating their own lab-based testing and validation.

As part of the Immutability for Everyone hardware launch that occurred in spring 2025, Object First introduced three new Ootbi (Out-of-the-Box Immutability) sizes: 20 TB and 40 TB units designed for mid-sized enterprises and a powerful 432 TB appliance delivering up to 8 GB/s data ingest speed (on a four-node cluster) for large-scale environments.

In addition, Object First released a consumption-based model for these appliances, which eliminates the need for customers to purchase or manage hardware via a straightforward monthly billing structure, a one-year subscription, and automatic technology refreshes, services, support, and software updates.

StorageReview tested the 20 and 432 TB units and determined that ease of deployment and management are the appliances’ greatest strengths. From unboxing to full integration with Veeam’s Proxmox native integration, the entire process took just a few minutes.

“Day 2 Ootbi management” is also highlighted, including ongoing management and maintenance. They found that in clustered environments, updates are automatically applied across all nodes in the cluster, ensuring consistent versioning without additional effort—this process was also completed in a matter of minutes.
